Opportunities can be classified by their Type. Types are a list of names that users manage in Daylite's settings, and they can be used for filtering, grouping, or other data mining.
On an opportunity, the type appears as a plain name in type. The API can list types and get one by name, but can't create, edit or delete them; setting a name on an opportunity that doesn't exist yet creates it.
